I have been a patient of Dr Howalt's center
in San Luis Obispo for almost two years. Before that I checked into
cottage hospital to be detoxed. I used to cope with life by eating
handfuls of Vicodin or Norco, Percocet etc. This had been going on on
and off for 15 years. I would go years and be "fine". Then I would
start taking pills for "back pain" or some other nonsense and before I knew
it I was trying to get a prescription filled early with yet another
ridiculous excuse! So in 2006 my husband died and I picked up my two
children and walked away from everything. I wanted a new life.
My family found Cottage Hospital Santa Barbara detox and after a week I was
released. I got Dr Howalt's name from them when I was discharged and
have been taking Suboxone now everyday for 23 months. The minute I
melted the first one under my tongue I felt better! I have no cravings
- seriously none! I really had resigned myself to being a drug addict
the rest of my life. I just had to find different doctors and
pharmacy's so I could go on abusing opiates. It was a lot of work. So
for anyone who is sick and tired of the nightmare and hates the idea of
withdrawals try Suboxone (and of course treatment!) I found a great
resource for a positive life at SLOARC. The staff is nice and Dr Howalt
really knows his stuff and has a sense of humor to boot.
Dr. Howalt's recovery program along with Suboxone and a support group changed my life from that of a 46 year old woman, mother, college educated professional who lived for her prescription refills, to a happy balanced person once again. I was sarcastic and incredibly cynical about all those nuts in AA and their dumb-ass sayings. Now I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement in some of the meetings I go to, some can be low functioning, but that has nothing to do with my happiness and sobriety. If you are miserable and cynical about AA give this a try. Suboxone along with therapy works! You can always go back to being miserable later! Give it a try....
